What and how is funding provided?

The NRW KULTURsekretariat supports innovative art and cultural projects in all genres.

Funding by the NRWKS is only possible within the framework of its funding programmes and is only open to cultural actors in the member cities. The funding programmes are divided into funding within the framework of the catalogues, funding following a call for proposals and project funding without application deadlines. The funding programmes themselves impose conditions on the content of the project, specify the documents required for the application, the maximum funding amount and the eligibility to apply.

Funding within the framework of the catalogues

Within the framework of catalogue funding, an application for pro-rata funding of the artist's fee can be made when booking one of the groups selected in the specific catalogue.

Children's Theatre of the Month | Music Cultures | Werkproben

Application after call for proposals

Funding is also awarded through calls for proposals in individual cases. All current calls for proposals are published on this website.

NOperas!/feXm | Dialogue projects of the Music Cultures | Dance Research NRW | CityARTists

Application for events/projects/productions

Within project funding, projects are supported that can be assigned to the listed funding programmes in terms of content. Please note the specific requirements on the respective programme pages.

Digital Performance | Interventions in Urban Space | New Music Theatre Fund | Cooperated ProjectsKulturstrolche

Important note: It is no longer possible to apply for "Interventions in Urban Space" for 2024. The "Cooperated Projects" funding pot is temporarily closed.

Basic conditions of any funding

Support is only possible within the framework of the NRWKS funding programmes listed above. The projects must be located in at least one NRWKS member city. In the case of digital formats, only the artist's place of work must be in a member city. The funded projects must be open to the public, unless they are conceptual, and must not be intended to make a profit. In addition, the project must have not yet started at the time of application, i.e. expenditure and contracts have not yet been concluded, public relations measures, including press releases, have not yet been taken.
