CityARTists
The ‘CityARTists’ funding awards for artists in NRW have attracted a great deal of attention from the art scene and the media across the state.
The funding programme in the field of visual arts, which was developed together with the cultural offices of the member cities, was launched for the first time in 2020. Since then, ten prizes have been awarded annually as scholarships, each worth 5,000 euros. Prizes are awarded to distinguished artists who have reached the age of 50 and live or work in one of the member cities of the NRWKS.
In future, the ‘CityARTists Prizes’ will be awarded every two years. The next competition will therefore start in 2026.
In addition to information on the funding programme and the award-winning artists, the cityartists.de website also features a film about all the nominees.
The prizes were awarded for the fifth time in October 2024. Following the call for entries in all member cities, 20 artists were nominated by local juries in the cities. A panel of experts from the NRW KULTURsekretariat then selected ten artists for the award.
The CityARTists 2024 are: Dorothee Bielfeld (Bochum), Christoph Hildebrand (Essen), Karl-Heinz Jeiter (Aachen), Barbara Koch (Dortmund), Milen Miltchev Mönchengladbach), Neringa Naujokaite (Düsseldorf), Cordula Sauer (Wuppertal), Silke Schatz (Cologne), Ingeborg Schmidthüsen (Moers) und Ulrike Waltemathe (Duisburg). The award ceremony took place for the second time in the LUDWIGGALERIE Schloss Oberhausen.
