Scholarships for visual artists from the member cities

The "CityARTists" prizes for artists from NRW have quickly become firmly established and will enter their third round in 2022. The state-wide call for entries begins on 10 January and ends on 29 April 2022. After the call for entries has ended, suitable artists are nominated by local juries in the cities. Subsequently, an expert jury organised by the NRW KULTURsekretariat will select ten artists from the nominees for the award. The award ceremony takes place in early October in one of the member cities.

The programme for the promotion of the visual arts, which was developed together with the member cities, was launched for the first time in 2020. Since then, ten prizes have been awarded annually in the form of scholarships, each in the amount of 5,000 euros. Renowned artists over 50 who live and work in one of the NRWKS member cities and are active in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, including the border areas of the performing arts, are awarded prizes.

The most recent recipients were Katharina Bosse (Bielefeld), Uwe Esser (Krefeld), Karin Geiger (Neuss), Peter Gros (Bochum), Stephanie Pech (Bonn), Werner Ryschawy (Gelsenkirchen), Jens Sundheim (Dortmund), Heike Weber (Cologne), Petra Wittmar (Essen) and Thomas Wrede (Münster) in October 2021.

The programme has its own website where, in addition to information about the funding programme and the award-winning artists, a film about all the nominees can be found.
