Werkproben

Funding programme for writers and literature in NRW

Together with the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh, the NRWKS runs the "Werkproben" (Work samples), a multifaceted programme to promote literature. Since the beginning of 2022, the current team of authors has again represented all traditional literary genres and can be booked for events until the end of 2023.

Willi Achten and Karosh Taha were selected for the prose section, while Lina Atfah and Sabine Schiffner represent the poetry section. For the children's book segment, Anne Becker and Andrea Karimé were won over, the youth book segment is represented by Brigitte Jünger and Sarah Jäger. In addition, unusual formats will again be supported and other forms of presentation beyond the classic reading will be offered: For example, Jörg Hilbert gives children of pre-school and primary school age digital insights into his "book workshop word and picture" and Özlem Özgül Dündar offers readings with radio play recordings and subsequent discussions for young people from 14 and adults. Video clips with short readings by all participating authors offer an insight.

In addition, two musical-literary programmes on "Spuren nach Iran" (Traces of Iran) are offered in connection with the "Music Cultures": one with the poet Nahid A. Musawi and the musician Kioomars Musayyebi, another with the narrator Mitra Gaast and the duo Sanaz Zaresani/Benjamin Stein.

Thanks to the funding, literary organisers in municipal and independent institutions as well as schools can offer a broad audience the opportunity to experience high-ranking authors from NRW "live" in readings and writing workshops - to the benefit of organisers, authors and readers of all ages. Applications can be submitted all year round. Special attention is traditionally paid to teaching writing skills. Almost all authors offer creative writing workshops in addition to readings. Both formats can be booked individually, but also in combination on the same day. Appointments as well as detailed arrangements regarding the course of the event, arrival and departure, number of participants, choice of works and workshop topics are made directly with the authors.

The programme has been put together in cooperation with the NRW Literature Office, the NRW South Literature Office, the OWL Literature Office, the Ruhr Literature Office, the Westphalian Literature Office, Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature and the NRW Ministry of Culture.
