68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen – Traditions and new approaches to film and media art in North Rhine-Westphalia

From 4 to 8 May, an international group of nine festival directors, curators, video artists and film critics travelled to North Rhine-Westphalia for the 68th edition of the renowned Short Film Festival Oberhausen to get to know the festival and its extensive programme, as well as the film and video art scene in NRW and its representatives.

During their visit to Oberhausen, the guests from Egypt, Bangladesh, China, Finland, Colombia, Croatia, Peru, the Czech Republic and Turkey met with Dr Lars Henrik Gass, Artistic Director of the Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Hilke Döring, Programme Manager of the International Competition, as well as with Ute Dilger, Press and Public Relations, and Prof. Melissa de Raaf, Dramaturgy and Filmic Narration, Academy of Media Arts Cologne, among others.

In Düsseldorf, the group visited the IMAI - Inter Media Art Institute Foundation, where they met the director Dr Linnea Semmerling and Darija Šimunović, research assistant collection and distribution, as well as the JULIA STOSCHEK COLLECTION. They met with Tasja Langenbach, Artistic Director of the VIDEONALE, and Fabian Saavedra-Lara, Director of medienwerk.nrw, for a networking lunch on film and media art in NRW on the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein in Essen.
