Dancing towards ethical cross-cultural collaboration

Heidi Seppälä from Helsinki (Finland) and Emmanuel Ndefo from Lagos (Nigeria) form the collective DANCO - School of Decolonising the Art of Dance, which develops new ways of thinking and working in the field of tension between art and science, with the aim of questioning and making visible the power structures and hegemony of dance as art.

Her research in Cologne focuses on the preconditions of togetherness, the development of ethically sustainable methods for collaboration in a creative environment and the creation of movement scores and tasks based on these preconditions and deals with these questions: How can a collaboration be designed that takes into account the specificity of the situation that arises between people in this moment and in this space? Can a shared stage be the context in which the voice of each individual can be heard? Without a common working culture, how can we create conditions for everyone if the context is inevitably unknown?
