Sound of the Cities – Contemporary music in North Rhine-Westphalia

Theme trip

As part of the "Sound of the Cities" theme tour in September, seven international guests were able to gain comprehensive insights into the scene for new and improvised music on the Rhine and Ruhr and get to know its protagonists.

The guests' programme included the state-wide concert series for improvised music "Soundtrips NRW", funded by the NRW KULTURsekretariat, with two concerts and a discussion with participating musicians and curators.

The 10th anniversary of the network "ON Neue Musik Köln" with numerous concerts, the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, LTK4 - Klangbasierte Künste Köln and the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Music (ICEM) at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen were the destinations of the visitors from Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Spain.

In addition, there were meetings with the Ensemble Musikfabrik, the Ensemble Garage and the E-MEX Ensemble. Rehearsal visits and further concerts rounded off the trip to North Rhine-Westphalia.
