FAVORITEN

The ‘FAVORITEN’ festival takes place every two years in Dortmund – the next one will be held from 1 to 11 October 2026.

Founded in 1985 as ‘Theaterzwang’, the biennial ‘FAVORITEN’ is one of the oldest festivals of independent performing arts in Germany. The NRW KULTURsekretariat has been involved since the festival was founded and, by supporting the festival, promotes the sustainable development of the independent scene in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The ‘FAVORITEN’ festival in Dortmund presents outstanding productions from the independent performing arts scene in North Rhine-Westphalia and also offers the regional scene a forum for exchange on working methods, contemporary aesthetics and political and social issues. The festival also sees itself as a supra-regional platform for networking with international artists, groups and collectives.
