BOW A STUDY

With Tanzrecherche NRW #47, the Amsterdam-based team of choreographer and dancer Wojciech Grudziński and composer Wojtek Blecharz will be devoting themselves to the multifaceted meanings of the bow - in the field of tension between dance-specific and social gesture - in Düsseldorf in August/September.

Their particular interest is the connection of the choreographic gesture of gratitude with the instrument of political consent and the understanding of the bow as a representation of a symbolic and economic transaction.

So what comes after the bow?

As part of his dance research residency at FREIRAUM in Düsseldorf, choreographer and dancer Wojciech Grudziński draws on his many years of research into the topic of recognition. He is now focussing on forgotten stories and archaic techniques. Building on his last work "BOW A STUDY", this studio time is all about dancing ancestors and their heritage. It evokes the human body - both as a physical entity and as a complex symbolic terrain - and addresses issues of belonging, trust and memory by reviving non-institutionalised and unmentioned artistic practices of his 'heroes'.
