Dance Research NRW #46

Dancing (fancy)

When is a body considered fit for dancing? What abilities should it have? To what extent are bodies considered "perfect" for dancing? Is there an ideal body? And if the emphasis is primarily on bodies that dance skillfully, how would different bodies, disabled, of different ages and abilities, dance?

In March and August, the Greek choreographer Maria Koliopoulou will explore the physical prerequisites for dance ability with Tanzrecherche NRW #46 in Cologne. In addition to elementary aspects, the focus will be equally on ideal abilities and on the effects of certain physical limitations. The location of her research will be the DIN A 13 tanzcompany, one of the few dance ensembles whose members are made up of dancers with and without physical disabilities.
