Funding programme for cultural diversity in urban societies

This funding programme serves to develop and cultivate cultural diversity in urban societies. Funding is provided for projects in the member cities of the NRW KULTURsekretariat that are organised by civic initiatives together with professional cultural actors. The spectrum of measures ranges from increasing the attractiveness of city districts to strengthening the local sense of belonging and supporting already active local initiatives, structures and networks. The funding approach was proposed by the programme committee of the member cities.

Eligible applicants are civic initiatives, associations or artists based in the city districts who know their own neighbourhood and its special features best. An essential prerequisite for funding is an established, professional tandem partner from the field of art and culture with whom the project will be carried out. Depending on the project and its initiator, partners can be institutions as well as individuals.

Applications are prepared together with the public cultural administration and finally forwarded to the NRWKS by the member cities. There are no application deadlines. The maximum funding amount is 2,500 euros. The member cities must each contribute a total of 25 per cent of the project costs to the funding.

What is funded under the programme?

Funding is provided for projects in the member cities of the NRWKS that are organised by civic initiatives together with a professional cultural actor in order to bring the diversity of urban society into the spotlight.

The spectrum of measures ranges from increasing the attractiveness of city districts to strengthening the local sense of belonging and supporting already active local initiatives, structures and networks.

Who can apply?

Civic initiatives from NRWKS member cities. The application is submitted via the responsible cultural administration of the member city.

Is there a deadline for applications?

There are no application deadlines.

What is the maximum amount of funding?

The maximum funding amount is 2,500 euros. The member city must contribute a total of 25% of the project costs.

What funding conditions must be met?

The content of the project must fit into the NRWKS funding programme "Stadtviertel-Förderung" and be located in one of the NRWKS member cities.

In addition, the project must be open to the public, unless it is a conceptual funding project.

The project must not have been started by the time the grant is confirmed. This includes public relations work, conclusion of contracts, awarding of contracts and payments.

Funding for parties and organisations that pursue a profit-making objective is not envisaged.

Applications are prepared by the project initiators, if necessary with the support of the cultural office of the member city. The application is then forwarded to the NRWKS and recommended for funding.

How do I apply for funding?

Applications must be submitted using the form provided here, which must be signed by a person authorised to represent the organisation. The application must be submitted via the responsible cultural administration of the member city.

An additional cost and financing plan must be submitted for all projects with a total volume of more than 5,000 EUR as stated on the application form.

Please note whether further documents, e.g. letters of recommendation or letters of approval from other donors, must be enclosed with the application.
