Interculture and Diversity

Funding programme for projects and concepts on cultural diversity and social diversity

The funding programme "Interculture and Diversity" focuses on the cultural diversity of society and social diversity. Funding is provided for projects and discourses and, since 2021, increasingly for concept developments and workshops that are artistically dedicated to the productive and mutually enriching exchange of people with different cultural orientations - including people with an immigration history and taking refugees into account. The funding focus on diversity includes such projects, but also concept developments that deal with questions and meanings of age, gender, sexual orientation as well as mental and physical abilities as well as national, ethnic and social origin - and above all make the diverse achievements, experiences and potentials recognisable and promote them. Music projects, on the other hand, are not considered, as they can be funded within the framework of "Musikkulturen".

Applications can be submitted throughout the year. Organisers, artists, institutions and initiatives from the member cities of the NRW KULTURsekretariat are eligible to apply. In the case of digital formats, the artist's place of work must be in a member city. The maximum funding amount is 5,000 euros.

In 2022, the work of the Round Table "Diversity", which was established by the NRWKS in 2016, will be continued and expanded together with other funding institutions, networkers and multipliers for joint strategic work for more equal opportunities and participation and less discrimination through ethnic attributions. In addition to the NRWKS, the institutions that use state funds to promote programmes and projects in the field of diversity are also involved. The committee, which meets regularly, invites relevant institutions and initiatives to participate in the discourse. In June 2020, the Round Table published a so-called first consensus "Für eine Kunst und Kulturlandschaft der Gesellschaft der Vielen!" (For an Arts and Cultural Landscape of the Society of the Many!).

Like the Round Table, "Interkultur und Diversität" (Interculture and Diversity) emerged from the "Refugee Citizen" programme, with which the NRWKS has been intensively dealing with cultural change in urban societies since the end of 2015 - including a series of conferences with different orientations.
