Literarischer Sommer / Literaire Zomer

Every year, the literature festival offers a wide range of opportunities to engage with contemporary German and Dutch literature.

For years, the binational literature festival ‘Literarischer Sommer/Literaire Zomer’ has been presenting works by German and Dutch authors in readings and discussions, as well as in literary walks through numerous cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Netherlands, usually from July to early September.

Crossing language barriers is central to this bilingual literature festival, with not only authors from the neighbouring country reading, but also literary translators often reporting on their work and enriching the discussion with a broader perspective on the world of books.

The ‘Literarischer Sommer’ is supported by the NRW KULTURsekretariat as part of inter-municipal cooperation. Participating member cities: Aachen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and Neuss.
