The Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan in Chennai (India) organised an extensive visitors' programme for 16 photo curators and photographers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the beginning of the year. The initiative for this came from Varun Gupta, director of the Chennai Photo Biennale and alumnus of the International Visitors Programme: in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Chennai, he had already undertaken a trip to North Rhine-Westphalia in 2019 to prepare the visitors programme for his colleagues from various South Asian countries. The International Visitors Programme established contacts with photo artists, photo actors and institutions in Düsseldorf and Cologne.

In 2020, the group of visitors also stopped in Düsseldorf, Essen and Cologne on their journey through Germany and Switzerland to meet important representatives from the field of photography in North Rhine-Westphalia.
