New Impulses - The IMPULSE Theatre Festival breaking new ground

Event trip

In June, eight international festival directors, curators, theatre critics and theatre professionals visited North Rhine-Westphalia for the Impulse Theatre Festival.

The visitors from Brazil, Chile, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Cuba, Poland and Thailand attended performances at the festival in Mülheim an der Ruhr as well as events at the new Impulse Academy ("Academy of the Precarious #1 - Between the Village Square and the World Market") in Cologne, where they took part in a workshop by Prof. Bojana Kunst (Justus Liebig University Giessen) on the subject of "POLITICIZING INTER/NATIONAL PRODUCTION".

Haiko Pfost, artistic director of the festival (2018˗2020), met with the visitors for an exchange, while Impulse dramaturge Wilma Renfordt gave the group a guided tour of the Düsseldorf city project "Wenn die Häuser Trauer tragen" in the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus.

In Cologne, there was an opportunity for an exchange with Elke Moltrecht, managing director, Madhusree Dutta, artistic director, and Aneta Rostkowska, curator, at the Akademie der Künste der Welt, as well as a walk through the exhibition "Global Positioning System Not Working" in the Academy Space. A meeting with representatives of the Cologne ensemble network Free Trade Zone was also on the agenda, as well as a meeting with the managing director of the Zukunftsakademie NRW, Inez Boogaarts, in Bochum.
