Duesseldorf Photo Weekend – Contemporary Photography in North Rhine-Westphalia

From 2 to 5 February, the International Visitors Programme offered a group of curators and heads of institutions from Italy, Cuba, Malta, Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic the opportunity to take an in-depth look at contemporary photography in NRW during the Duesseldorf Photo Weekend 2017.

The guests visited numerous events and exhibitions of the Photo Weekend, for which more than 50 galleries, museums, institutions and the Düsseldorf off-scene opened their doors for a weekend for the sixth time in a row, as well as other institutions and museums in NRW.

In Essen, the group met with the head of the photographic collection of the Museum Folkwang, Florian Ebner, and together visited the exhibition "Das rebellische Bild. Situation 1980: Die Kreuzberger "Werkstatt für Photographie" and die »junge Folkwang-Szene" ("The Rebellious Image. Situation 1980: The Kreuzberg "Workshop for Photography" and the "young Folkwang scene"). In Cologne, the programme included the photography collection of the SK Stiftung Kultur and a discussion with its director Gabriele Conrath-Scholl.
