AFRO-TECH Fest Dortmund – AFRO-TECH AND THE FUTURE OF RE-INVENTION

Three curators from Namibia, Nigeria and Senegal travelled to Dortmund from 20 to 23 October on the occasion of the Afro-Tech Fest and took part in the conference and project week "AFRO-TECH AND THE FUTURE OF RE-INVENTION" organised by the HKMV - Hartware MedienkunstVerein.

The various event formats - exhibition, talks, performances, workshops, films, music programme - looked at artists and cultural producers from African countries who think, imagine, propagate, develop and use technologies according to other, non-Western standards.

Aside from the extensive programme of the Afro-Tech Fest, which took place at the Dortmunder U and other locations in Dortmund, the guests met an shared with the organisers Inke Arns (Hartware MedienkunstVerein), Fabian Saavedra-Lara (Interkultur Ruhr) and Klaas Werner (medienwerk.nrw).

The guests were:

Marion Louisgrand Sylla, founder, director and curator: Kër Thiossane - Villa for Art and Multimedia, Dakar/SENEGALE   

Masiyaleti Mbewe, freelance author, digital artist and curator: Windhoek/NAMIBIA

Iheanyichukwu Chukwumerije Onwuegbucha, associate curator: CCA - Centre for Contemporary Art Lagos, Lagos/NIGERIA
