Dance Research NRW #60
ISaAc iSaBeL Espinoza Hidrobo's research focuses on embodied dance and spiritual practices and is developed in collaboration with local BIPOC artists through Funk, Vogue and Candomblé. Nyandra Fernandes, dancer, choreographer and director of Elegbará in Rio de Janeiro, facilitates the link to a powerful fusion of ritual, resistance and embodied experience of knowledge. Brazilian Funk, with its improvised Passinho and deep social roots, offers insights into joy, survival and collective expression. Furthermore, the sacred water practices of Candomblé resonate with ISaAc iSaBeL's ongoing research in the Andes on queer, pre-colonial cosmologies.
ISaAc iSaBeL lives in Cologne and promotes queer gatherings through the collective maiskind. By getting to know the lived realities and spiritual techniques of Rio, ISaAc iSaBeL seeks to expand the network and deepen the practice in order to prepare for the challenges ahead.
