Soft Power / Hard Code: Choreographies of Erotic Discipline

The research of Dance Research fellow Brig Huezo examines how body, technology and performance intersect in Japan, tracing choreographic connections from Geiko traditions to the Oiran iconography and the digitally amplified fantasies of contemporary Hentai culture. Brig Huezo's artistic practice moves between body, image and code, treating the body as a hybrid space where movement, data and memory converge. As a post-digital choreographer based in Cologne, Brig Huezo uses motion tracking, real-time systems and embodied inquiry to explore how desire, gender and identity are shaped by performance and technology.

The Geiko practice in Kyoto and the archival and digital representations of Oiran and Hentai in Tokyo reveal contrasting choreographies of discipline, beauty and eroticism. Through writing, visual documentation and situated body research, Brig Huezo aims to expand personal choreographic language and open new pathways between tradition, identity and digital transformation.
