Circular.Culture

Circular.Culture is pioneering new approaches to the reuse of materials in the cultural sector and brings together stakeholders from the arts, culture and local authorities. This is helping to create a sustainable infrastructure for circular working practices in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Art and cultural productions generate large quantities of materials that are often used for only a short time. The circular economy offers concrete approaches to conserving resources, reducing costs and producing more sustainably.

Circular.Culture is a three-year pilot project aimed at developing and testing circular structures within the cultural sector in North Rhine-Westphalia. It brings together cultural institutions, the independent arts scene, local authorities and the research community.

As part of Circular.Culture, a central materials depot is to be set up, regional materials hubs established and a digital sharing platform created to promote the sustainable circulation of materials within the arts and culture scene in North Rhine-Westphalia. These initiatives will be accompanied by educational and awareness-raising measures.

Circular.Culture is a joint project of the NRW KULTURsekretariat, Neue Effizienz gemeinnützige GmbH in Wuppertal, Theater Bonn and the City of Cologne.

It is funded as part of the ERDF programme “Circular Economy – CircularCities.NRW” by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and co-financed by the European Union.
