NOperas! / feXm

For two decades, the ‘Fonds Experimentelles Musiktheater’ (feXm) has been the leading funding initiative for new musical theatre formats in German-speaking countries.

‘NOperas!’ brings together several theatres, including some outside North Rhine-Westphalia, to jointly develop a music theatre project each season and present it on all stages in different location-specific project variations.

On the basis of annual calls for proposals, a jury consisting of representatives from the theatres and the funding body, as well as external experts, decides on the selection of the independent scene project, the realisation of which is funded with up to 150,000 euros.

For the 2025/26 season, ‘Die Kantine’ (The Canteen), a project by composer, director and filmmaker Nico Sauer, is on the programme. The first production will take place at Theater Münster (premiere: 27 February 2026). The production will then be further developed at Staatstheater Darmstadt.
