Interventions in Urban Space

Art for public spaces: Funding is provided for projects beyond traditional cultural venues that focus on bringing artists and citizens together to create a vibrant culture in urban spaces.

Introduced after the pandemic, the programme supports installation or performance art projects involving local partners or the public. The public space – whether indoors or outdoors – must be conceptually integrated.

What is funded under the programme?

Installative or performative art actions, involving local partners or the public. Conceptual integration of public space – whether indoors or outdoors – is required.

Who can apply?

Qualified and/or project-experienced artists and cultural actors, as well as local initiatives and institutions from the member cities of the NRWKS – each in connection with one another

Is there a deadline for applications?

No application deadline

Applications can be submitted throughout the year as long as funding is available.

Applications should be submitted six weeks before the planned start of the project if possible.

What is the amount of funding?

Maximum funding amount: 7,000 euros

What funding conditions must be met?

Content related to the funding programme ‘Interventions in Urban Space’

Location in one of the member cities of the NRWKS

At least three performances or accessibility for at least one week

Suitability for revival (please include explanations with the application)

Proof of collaboration between the artist and local partner (letter of intent)

No project start (i.e. public relations work, conclusion of contracts, awarding of contracts, payments) before submitting the application on the NRWKS funding portal

No funding for parties or organisations with a profit motive
