Ruhrtriennale 2019 – International Art and European Self-Criticism

Event trip

Six international guests were invited to NRW by the International Visitors Programme from 27th August to 1st September as part of the Ruhrtriennale 2019. This year the festival, which invites contemporary artists to perform within the monolithic industrial architecture spaces of the Ruhr metropolis, dealt with aspects of European self-criticism.

The visitors from Egypt, Greece, Kenya, Uruguay, Venezuela and the Philippines attended festival events in Duisburg and Bochum and were able to meet with Ruhrtriennale’s artistic director, Stefanie Carp, and dramaturg, Dr Julia Naunin.

Outside the festival, the group was taken on a tour of the Ruhr University in Bochum and visited the Museum unter Tage (Mut) and Situation Kunst (für Max Imdahl). The programme was rounded off by a meeting with the director of the Artistic Collections of the Ruhr University Bochum, Dr Friederike Wappler.
