Since 2010 the concert series "Soundtrips NRW" has been dedicated to improvised music.
It explores and presents above all the variety of personal styles and the most diverse playing techniques.
Anyone who goes on one of the up to five Soundtrips each year can experience fascinating worlds of sound, new musical creations and spontaneous encounters with extraordinary music and musicians.
The programme for 2020 will once again bring top-class international guests to NRW: The 48th Soundtrip NRW at the end of February/beginning of March will kick off with the Japanese pianist and violinist Rieko Okuda. Jošt Drašler (double bass) and Vid Drašler (percussion) will arrive from Slovenia at the beginning of April.
At the beginning of October the American drummer Michel Zerang and his duo partner will be guests in NRW and only one month later, at the beginning of November, Achim Kaufmann (piano) and Ignaz Schick (turntables) will play. At the beginning of December the French improvisation musician and composer Jérôme Nœtinger will conclude the concert.
"Soundtrips NRW" is characterized by a special event concept, which is supported and permanently developed by various partners: Renowned musicians from NRW meet here on international stars, younger talents on established representatives of improvised music. In the first part of each concert, the international guests play their own programme - in the second part they perform together with professionals from NRW and provide the scene with new impulses. The local hosts are also happy to make guest appearances with their colleagues in other cities and thus benefit from additional performance opportunities.
With the support of the NRW KULTURsekretariat, this extraordinary format, which has attracted a great deal of attention not least after the "Soundtrips" festival in 2019, has continuously expanded into a state-wide, internationally renowned forum for high-quality concerts. The festival was celebrated on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the "Soundtrips NRW" with concerts and discussions in Bonn, Moers, Münster and Wuppertal. Six international journalists were present and reported.
In the coming season, at least ten cities will again be participating with their concert organizers: Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Hagen, Cologne, Münster and Wuppertal.
