The "popNRW Prize", introduced in 2012, is one of the best-endowed and most prestigious awards for pop musicians in Germany.
In 2021, together with the Landesmusikrat NRW, it will be awarded for the tenth time to successful musicians and promising newcomers from the region, who, in addition to the prize money, also enjoy an enormous surge in popularity be allowed. In the past years we have also been able to well-known award winning bands such as Giant Rooks or International Music profit.
The award ceremony will take place for the second time in autumn and will will continue to take place in the future. The venue will probably be be the Gloria Theater in Cologne. On the occasion of the anniversary special additional live activities are planned, also in order to achieve even more media coverage to draw attention to the price.
The nominated artists and groups of a jury of experts from the industry, festival organisers and journalists, supplemented by proposals from an advisory board of representatives from the field of pop promotion.
The ninth award ceremony had to be moved from spring to autumn due to corona reasons and took place as part of the c/o pop festival at the Volksbühne am Rudolfplatz in Cologne, which was also postponed.
The first prize in the "Oustanding Artists" category, worth 10,000 euros, went to Cologne artist Keshavara. The artist Iuma, also from Cologne, was delighted to receive the 2,500 euro sponsorship award for "Best Newcomer".
Once again, the runners-up in both categories received further prizes: Ströer Media GmbH donated media campaigns worth 1,500 euros and 500 euros respectively to the bands Acua and Loki.
Due to Corona, only a few invited guests from the industry as well as band representatives were able to be on site. For this reason, the event was also broadcast live via the c/o pop xoxo streaming platform. The evening was hosted by radio and TV presenter Anja Backhaus.
As an integral part of "popNRW", the award also draws national attention to this nationwide programme.
The NRW KULTURsekretariat, the Landesmusikrat NRW and c/o pop, together with local partners and supported by the NRW Ministry of Economics and the NRW Ministry of Culture, operate an effective and sustainable network of artists, event organisers, venues and pop promotion institutions.
