The International Visitors Programme of the NRW KULTURsekretariat celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2019. To mark this occasion, an all-day international and interactive conference was held on 12.11.2019 at the tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf.
Under the title "SYNERGIZE! Culture in Democratic Action: The Socio-Political Impact of International Networks and Cultural Relations", the event focused on the socio-political influence of international networks and cultural relations, and involved numerous alumni from the last ten years.
The participants of the conference dealt with these questions and topics, among others: What effects do international cultural relations have on democratic coexistence? How important is personal encounter in these relationships? And how can intercultural networks be expanded and made accessible to all?
On the one hand, global diversity is becoming increasingly visible and accessible through the Internet, digital technologies and the expansion of infrastructure, but on the other hand, the tendencies towards exclusion, polarization and censorship are increasing radically. It seems more important than ever for art and culture to strengthen diversity and itself.
