New Music Theatre Fund

This fund has been sponsoring contemporary musical and dance theatre productions in opera houses across North Rhine-Westphalia since 2001. To facilitate commissioned compositions, first performances and premieres and to provide a counterpoint to the “classical” repertoire, the State Ministry of Culture provides the NRW KULTURsekretariat with dedicated funds worth Euro 250,000 each year for theatres.

As well as commissions for new compositions, the "New musical theatre fund" is also used to promote performances of younger and more contemporary works. It is now also possible to fund dance productions which integrate live contemporary music.
