Children's Theatre of the month

chooses one outstanding children’s theatre ensemble each month to be recommended to cultural managers and schools

For more than 30 years, cultural event organisers and schools in North Rhine-Westphalia have been recommended an outstanding children’s theatre ensemble from Germany every month. This service, which is the only one of its kind in the country and which is operated in collaboration with the Kultursekretariat NRW in Gütersloh, offers children of all ages the opportunity to experience the complex art form of theatre in all its formal and aesthetic variety at an early age - and to understand theatre as an important cultural technique in the process of adapting to the world around us.

With grants for fees and production costs of up to 50% of the total costs, this performance network allows more than 200 performances a year across the state in the partner cities of the two Kultursekretariate. While professional children’s theatres receive recognition for their work as well as financial support, dedicated event organisers are supported with the planning of programmes.

There is also an extensive programme of performances for the summer holidays in July and August.
