With the »Werkproben« (Work Samples), the two cultural offices have operated a fine sponsorship programme since 2005 from which organisers, authors and readers of all ages benefit alike.
With this special form of literature mediation and thanks to the special conditions offered, public literature organisers and schools can provide their audience with the opportunity to experience high-ranking authors from NRW in readings and writing workshops »live« and to meet them in person.
A new “Werkproben” (Work Probes) programme, created in cooperation with the NRW Literature Office, the Bonn Literature Office, the Eastern Westphalia-Lippe Literature Office, the Ruhr Literature Office and the Westphalian Literature Office, started in January 2019 and will be ongoing until the end of 2020.
The traditional literary genres are high calibre again. The field of prose is represented by Hanna Jansen and Sarah Meyer-Dietrich, whereas the field of poetry is represented by Hellmuth Opitz and Bastian Schneider. Doris Meißner-Johannknecht and Ute Wegmann were secured for the children’s books segment, whereas the youth books segment is represented by Rüdiger Bertram and Tobias Steinfeld.
In addition, cross-border formats are again supported and other forms of presentation beyond the classical reading offered under the title “Literatur plus” (Literature plus): Ferdinand Lutz and Dominik Merscheid in their “Bildklanglesung” (ImageSoundReading), for example, bring children’s comics to life with weird voices, noises, music and small animations. Miriam Berger and Xaver Römer, on the other hand, can currently be seen as the “Sprechduette” (speechduets) duo, with their advanced language performance project on texts by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.
Furthermore, the level of the mediation of writing skills remains significant: Besides readings, many participating authors also offer workshops on creative writing.
Both formats can be booked separately but also in combination on the same day. Dates and details on event schedule, arrival and departure, number of participants, selection of works and workshop topics are arranged with the authors directly.
For the first time, short clips will present the participant authors with filmed readings. Moreover, a joint event is planned in cooperation with the Literaturhaus Köln for this autumn.
