For those who join one of the up to five “Soundtrips NRW” each year, may expect fascinating worlds of sounds, musical new creations and spontaneous encounters with music styles and musicians.

With support of the NRW KULTURsekretariat, the series for improvisation music that started as a »cooperated project« in 2010 has been continuously expanded into a state-wide network and has also attracted much attention in the media.

In the upcoming season, at least ten cities with their experienced concert organisers are participating: Bielefeld, Bochum, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Hagen, Cologne, Münster and Wuppertal.

»Soundtrips NRW« strikes by its exceptional event concept that is supported by different partners and continuously further developed: Renowned musicians from NRW meet international greats here, younger talents meet established representatives of improvised music.

In the first part of each concert, the international guests play their own programme – in the second, they play together with professionals from NRW and provide the scene with new stimuli.

At the same time, the local hosts also enjoy giving guest performances with their colleagues in the other cities, thereby profiting from additional performance opportunities.

The programme for 2019 again brings first-class international guests to NRW.

Biliana Voutchkova (violin) and Michael Thieke (clarinet) will kick off the 43rd Soundtrips NRW in January and February on the following dates: 28 January Bonn, 2 February Wuppertal, 3 February Münster, 6 February Cologne, 8 or 15 February Duisburg, 17 February Münster.

In May, percussionist Chris Cutler and multi-instrumentalist Tim Hodgkinson will come to visit: 3 May Düsseldorf, 4 May Bochum, 5 May Münster, 6 May Cologne, 7 May Essen, 8 May Bonn, 9 May Hagen, 10 May Duisburg.
