The performance network “Musikkulturen” (Music Cultures), operated jointly with the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh, has made an important contribution to the promotion of world music in NRW since 2012.

Organisers of world music can minimise their economic risk and enrich their repertoire with less-known groups and musical styles.

The project thus promotes remarkable ensembles that can now tour through North Rhine-Westphalia more often, find their audience and make new contacts.

Musical dialogues are one of the factors of “Musikkulturen” (Music Cultures) that gain in importance and scope. They are created through common artistic approaches of musicians from different cultures, inside and outside of NRW.

Workshops lasting several days and rehearsals offer the opportunity for intensive exchange. The entire work process through to the final, also funded concerts is actively promoted and filmed by NRW KULTURsekretariat.

Since 2018, the dialogue projects have been musicologically accompanied by the Folkwang University Essen, such as the “SONIQ – Oriental Strings” dialogue, which started in 2018 and will be continued in spring 2019. Moreover, a research about venues and recipients with focus on interculturality was carried out by the Zukunftsakademie NRW in Bochum in 2018.
