Since 2012, the performance network "Musikkulturen" (Musical Cultures), which is operated jointly with the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh, has made an important contribution to the promotion of world music in NRW.

For the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, the advisory board has selected a total of 20 exceptional groups for this purpose - also taking into account the participants in the NRW competition of "Creole - global music from Germany": Avîan Quartet, Ayça Miraç Quartett, Berlin Oriental Quartet, East-West Pacem Orchestra, Hatan, Issa Sow & Gorée, Kaleidoskop, Karibuni, Marion & Sobo Band, Naghash Ensemble, Nouruz Ensemble, Pulsar Trio, RasgaRasga, Shahab Toulouie Trio, Sjaella, The Klezmer Tunes, Transidelia, WeltenBaum, ZMEI3.

An important part of the "Musikkulturen" are the musical "dialogues" between musicians from different cultures, financed and supported by the NRW KULTURsekretariat. Workshops and rehearsals lasting several days offer the opportunity for intensive exchange. The entire work process up to the final, also sponsored concerts is actively promoted and documented on film by the NRWKS.

In 2018 and 2019 the dialogue projects were accompanied by musicological support from the Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen. In 2018, an interculturally oriented study of venues and audiences was also carried out together with the Zukunftsakademie NRW in Bochum, which is available for download.

.

A state-wide advisory board consisting of around 20 institutions, experts and musicians acts as an expert committee for performances and dialogue projects. In addition, it prepares activities for communication and qualification, develops projects for cultural education and refugee work or concepts for children's concerts, and strengthens the presence and networking of world music actors in NRW.

The advisory board is offen for topic and project proposals and for participants interested in continuous collaboration.

From 03.02.2020, ensembles and artists of global music cultures can apply for inclusion in the performance network "Musikkulturen" for the 2021/22 season. The call is aimed at musicians with a focus on non-European musical traditions or a fusion of ethnic music with Western styles and directions. The application deadline is 30.03.2020
