Children in museum basements, theatre dressing rooms and library archives? “Kulturstrolche” makes it possible.
The state-wide sponsorship programme offers opportunities for children while still at primary school to be actively introduced to a wide range of art forms and institutions at a very early stage.
Artists and cultural institutions open their doors and invite intense encounters with lasting experiences that tap into the primary school children to discover the broad cultural diversity of his or her own city.
There is benefit in that on both sides: the more cultural organisers face the questions and issues of children the more convincing can they work on their profile and the more interesting they become for children. With regards to the demographic change, this is exactly where an essential strategic aspect lies.
Cultural institutions and artists elaborate on a diversified and high-quality cultural programme in cooperation with the local project management that includes all fields and that is tailored to the specific age groups of the “Kulturstrolche”.
From 2nd to 4th grade the students have the opportunity to have a go at culture and to discover by experiment for themselves what they like and what is particular fun.
At the start, each child is given a “Kulturstrolche” passport to document the children's visits and projects in the institutions. Small field-specific stickers bring back memories of many experiences and exciting explorations.
Since school year 2011/2012, the NRW KULTURsekretariat has participated in the “Kulturstrolche” – in collaboration with the city of Münster.
In total, more than 70 cultural institutions and 35 school classes have participated since the beginning of the sponsorship programme.
In 2016, there will again be many busy “Kulturstrolche” out discovering the cultural life of their city in Bielefeld, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Neuss, Oberhausen and Recklinghausen.
