Theatre Festival Impulse

Impulse has long been amongst the most important theatre festivals in German-speaking countries as the leading theatre meeting of the independent theatrical scene in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Many prize-winners of recent years were later invited to take part in follow-up projects at the Berlin Theatertreffen and other international festivals.

The 15th Impulse of the NRW KULTURsekretariat will be held in Bochum, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Mülheim from 25 November to 6 December 2009. Outstanding productions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which have been created outside the city theatre system, can submit their applications as of now, with premieres to be held between September 2007 and June 2009.

Matthias von Hartz and Tom Stromberg once again provide the artistic direction for the most important festival of the independent German-speaking theatrical scene and promise that »Following the successful relaunch in 2007, we are again excited about the whole range of new approaches and aesthetics in German-speaking fringe theatre.« Dr. Christian Esch, director of the NRW KULTURsekretariat, adds: »The positive feedback received for the last festival run is motivating us to continue along this path as well as to develop the festival’s international standing.«

Multiple award-winning Berlin artist Daniel Josefsohn, who created the look of Impulse 2007, has again been secured to create the festival’s design. Josefsohn has produced several extraordinary image films which are available for download now on the website at www.festivalimpulse.de.
