Münster

The "bicycle capital" gleams with many awards, including "most liveable city in the world" and "best junior school in Germany" - no less awarded is the cultural offering.

Every ten years since 1977, the International Sculpture Projects have shown the “state of the art” of art in the public domain and shape Münster’s international reputation as a city of art. Old and young, international and local art stand self-confidently in dialogue with each other here. Two outstanding examples of this are the Pablo Picasso graphics museum and the LWL State Museum for Art and Art History. In addition, Münster’s art academy emphasises a young avant-garde, which is presented in numerous galleries and studios of the city or in the exhibition hall “Contemporary Art Münster” on Kreativkai. Alongside the classical repertoire of plays, music, dance and children’s/youth theatre, the Städtische Bühne also have room for the Niederdeutsche Bühne. In addition, the independent scene also provides theatre friends with a rich programme. Münster also has lots to offer on the music front. In addition to the city’s symphony orchestra, there are numerous ensembles under the roof of the university and college of music as well as independent associations and outstanding master concert series. Beyond the city limits, Münster also enjoys its reputation as host of the International Jazz Festival.
