Moers

The smallest member city of the Kultursekretariat is not only rich in culture, but also the largest city in Germany that is neither independent nor the capital of a district.

There’s something on in Moers all year round. At Whitsun, the city is devoted to jazz. After that, the Moers Festival draws thousands to the Schlosspark. Things get spectacular and entertaining each summer at the International Comedy Arts Festival. One of the smallest stages in Germany, the Schlosstheater, puts on impressive and highly regarded productions. Together with his team, founding artistic director Holk Freytag caused a stir across Germany in the 1970s and 1980s with his politically involved, often uncomfortable, experimental theatre. The theatre is noted for this reputation to this very day. In addition, Moers Schloss also houses another cultural attraction. The collections of the Grafschafter Museum include archaeology, history, cultural history and folk art of the Moers region. Changing special exhibitions also delight thousands of visitors.
