Dortmund

As the largest city of the Ruhr district, Dortmund is the business and commerce centre of the region - the former industrial location is today a centre for services and future technologies.

Almost 600,000 people live in this lively metropolis, which has a history that goes back more than 1100 years. The Hanseatic city offers an attractive place to live, with a wide range of living, culture and leisure possibilities. Dortmund lies at the centre of Europe, is an important traffic hub and has an excellent infrastructure – yet is a green city: almost half of the city’s area comprises green spaces and parkland. Dortmund’s diverse cultural offering also leaves no wish unfulfilled: from international artists at the Konzerthaus Dortmund to modern and classical productions in the theatre to the numerous museums. Unique in Germany: the technology world of experience DASA and the National DFB Football Museum. A special project of “New Dortmund” is the transformation of the former coal and steel area PHOENIX into a location for investment and the future. The lead urban regeneration project in the city is the development centred on the “Dortmunder U” – a former brewery site is developing into a modern centre for creative and urban living. The renowned Museum Ostwall is also due to move here shortly.
