Exhibitions in Dortmund, Mönchengladbach and Mülheim an der Ruhr
Am Anfang war ich am Ende (In the Beginning Was the End) − this was the title of one of the three independently curated exhibitions in Dortmund, Mönchengladbach and Mülheim an der Ruhr that begins on 21 November 2010 as the last phase of the “Transfer France-NRW” project. What began in 2008 with the targeted search for the right partner institutions quickly garnered public attention in mid May 2009 with the selection of seven artists from each country by a binational jury. This was followed by kick-off events in September and October 2009 and by the artist residences from November 2009 to March 2010 in the guest countries. Here artists, curators and art enthusiasts had a good opportunity to learn about the respective local scenes and get to know the Transfer artists, their works and different approaches. Now the dialogue can continue! First in North Rhine-Westphalia, and as of January 2011 at exhibitions in Nantes, Dijon and Tourcoing. We invite you to join us!

»Metamorphosen« (Metamorphoses)
21 November 2010 – 9 January 2011
Vernissage: 20 November 2010, 5:00 pm
Alles bleibt im Fluss! (Everything Flows Onwards!) The Metamorphoses exhibition at the Mülheim Museum of Art proves it. The exhibition brings together seven Transfer participants with a focus on video, photography and installation. All the artists work with dynamic processes of change and transformation and experiment with the different possibilities of metamorphosis. Like alchemists they manipulate shapes, substances and content and convert found and natural objects into new creations.
Artists: Dominique Ghesquière, Ivan Bazak, Jürgen Stollhans, Thomas Mohren, Julien Bismuth, Régis Perray

»Am Anfang war ich am Ende« (At the Beginning Was the End)
21 November 2010 – 20 February 2011
Vernissage: 21 November 2010, 12:00 am
The Museum Abteiberg will be showing two site-specific projects from the Transfer NRW-France project as well as a final exhibition that traces the rambling ideas that have emerged from the two-year long German-French encounter. A new colour field installation by Elsa Tomkowiak is on display at the former public swimming pool on Berliner Platz. Mathilde Rosier’s performance, which took place in May 2010 in the ruins of the old theatre house, is now being shown as a film in the museum. Additional works also reflect this melancholy note and focus on the recurring cycle of time. Featured artists include Ivan Bazak, Dominique Ghesquière, Thomas Mohren, Roseline Rannoch and Jürgen Stollhans. Plus there’s Laughing in French and Laughing in German: 14 Definitive Proofs of the National Roots of Humour.
Artists: Ivan Bazak, Dominique Ghesquière, Thomas Mohren, Roseline Rannoch, Mathilde Rosier, Jürgen Stollhans and Elsa Tomkowiak

»Passage«
27 November 2010 – 23 January 2011
Vernissage: 26 November 2010, 7:00 pm
Space – Body − Perception are the three parameters of this exhibition. Space and human bodies belong together in the physical sense, as both are socially and culturally coded or have symbolic meaning. The perception of space helps provide orientation, yet in its appropriation through work or its transformation through symbolic actions it penetrates far beyond. Here space-body relations have become the specific subject of artworks − through the metaphorical video performances and photographs of Freya Hattenberger, the spatial sculptures of Cécile Desvignes, the sound-space actions of Christian Jendreikos, the negation of spatiality in the portraits of Antoine Petitprez as well as in the sculptures, video pieces and archives of Régis Perrays. Many of the works also shed light on the new site of the Museum Ostwall in its location at the Dortmunder U.
Artists: Cécile Desvignes, Dominique Ghesquière, Freya Hattenberger, Christian Jendreiko, Régis Perray, Antoine Petitprez
