- Musicologist (dissertation on the topic of opera in the 18th century), has also continued to work in the field
- Extended period of study at the German Study Centre in Venice
- Musical theatre and play dramaturge, employed and freelance, in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and elsewhere
- Journalistic work for daily newspapers and specialist press
- Developed and implemented concert series as radio producer in Frankfurt and produced CD recordings
- Also conceived and implemented concerts for Hessischer Rundfunk throughout the state of Hesse
- Long-standing music adviser to the Goethe-Institut
- Vice Chairman of Deutsch-Türkischer Kulturrat NRW e.V.

Biographical information
Florian Malzacher (b. 1970) is the chief dramaturg/curator of the interdisciplinary festival “steirischer herbst” in Graz and has also been an independent dramaturg/curator at the Burgtheater in Vienna (since 2009). After studying Angewandte Theaterwissenschaften (Applied Theatre Arts) in Giessen he has mainly been a theatre critic and culture journalist for German-speaking daily newspapers and magazines (Frankfurter Rundschau, taz, Theater heute, Ballettanz amongst others) as well as for international magazines (etcetera, Frakcija amongst others). He is a founder member of the freelance curator collective Unfriendly Takeover in Frankfurt.
Various dramatic compositions (including Rimini Protokoll, Lola Arias, Nature Theatre of Oklahoma), freelance curatorial work (incl. International Summer Academy Mousonturm Frankfurt 2002 & 2004, Wörterbuch des Krieges [= Dictionary of War] 2006/07), jury memberships (including at the Mülheim Theatre Days), workshops and teaching assignments (incl. the University of Vienna, Frankfurt University). Member of the advisory board of DasArts – Master of Theatre, Amsterdam (since 2009) and adviser to the Mannheimer Schillertage [=Mannheim Schiller Days] (since 2010).
He is a joint editor of, amongst others, the books “Not Even a Game Anymore. The Theatre of Forced Entertainment” (German/English 2004) and “Experten des Alltags [= Experts of the Everyday], Das Theater von Rimini Protokoll” (2007, Engl. 2008), as well as of Frakcija no. 55 on the topic of “Curating Performing Arts.”
